What game has the highest recommended specifications right now?
My desktop PC is more than 6 years old and I think its time for an upgrade. My plan is to upgrade its memory, graphics, PSU, and possibly CPU so that it can run the currently most memory intensive games reliably and be able to last another couple more years.
Current specs are: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz RAM: 4.1 GB Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DQ6 P965 775 OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit Video Card: GeForce 7950 GT PSU: Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W I am thinking: See #19 http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...5&postcount=19 Last edited by GamerCSE: 07-29-2012 at 09:59 AM. |

You would need a whole new core build... that cpu is pretty crud by now.
Wouldn't need a new PSU as long as that one is quality though. |

New CPU, mobo and RAM.....and something a little more powerful than a GTX560. That GTX560 would struggle with Metro 2033 at High Spec, let alone Very High spec.

Is there any need for a 800 PSU? That's enough to power SLI 680's...

As others have said...you're definitely going to need to upgrade that CPU. Man, and I thought my Core 2 Quad was starting to get long in the tooth. Ouch. New CPU will mean a new motherboard as well, since your current one very likely won't support the new core i5s and the like.
8GB RAM should be fine...I'm not an expert on Nvidia cards, but I don't see what's wrong with a 560. It's not top of the line anymore (that'd be the 680s), but it should do just fine in any game I can think of. Metro 2033 lists the GTX480/470 under its recommended specs, so I don't see why a 560 would "struggle" with the game on high spec. And unless you're planning on doing SLI/Crossfire, I doubt you'll need an 800W Corsair. 650-700W should do it I would think. |

Thanks for the input guys.
I was hoping I could last a few more years with my current CPU but it looks like it would struggle with the newest games. If I were to upgrade to the new i5s I would need a new mobo (my current one has a LGA 775 socket). It sounds like I should just forget about upgrading my current machine and do a whole new build. |

Your biggest problem is your graphics card. Before you start talking about a completely new build why don't you upgrade your graphics card and see how it works out. It it isn't enough then you can easily move it to a new build. This assumes that you have a performance problem you are trying to address. If performance is fine for your present uses then it is pointless spending money upgrading just to be upgrading.

Well, performance is acceptable for my present use now but their are problems. I recently started playing batman arkham asylum and arkham city and I was having major lag issues. I am upgrading my computer for Rome Total War 2 which I highly doubt it will be able to handle (although no specs have been released yet). I don't mind running games at the lowest settings as long as I get a decent framerate and it runs fine. If I can just upgrade the video card and save some money, I'm all for it. If I have to upgrade my CPU and Mobo, I am going to just do a new build. I have no problem with that either since I think I got my money's worth out of my current machine.
What graphics card would you guys recoomend? Last edited by GamerCSE: 07-28-2012 at 06:25 AM. |

RAM is pretty dirt cheap so you should be able to upgrade that easily and your PSU is set for just about anything besides SLI stuff. So I suggest the Intel Core i5 3570K for $299.99, the Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H for ~$100 and the Sapphire HD7850 for ~$240. This i5 will be able to overclock like crazy and the GPU looks set for the future without breaking the bank. |

To the op's question, i believe metro 2033 has the highest recommendations right now. Arma 2 following close behind.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading your current rig, you should build a new one if you can afford it. You definitely got your money's worth out of your machine...I just finished building my new rig that is going to replace my old one that I built back in 2008. Mine is 4 years old and I think I got my money's worth, your is 6, it's definitely time for a whole new build, man.
