Can't send Borderlands to my friend.

I'm gonna buy Borderlands for my friend, but since it's during the free weekend, it says that he already owns it. Do I have to wait till the free weekend is over before I can gift it to him?

I remember in the past people saying you have to wait until the weekend is over before you can buy or gift it.

Yeah, just wait until it ends then send it. Buy and store it in your inventory for later.

It's a known bug/oversight.
