Fixed: No music in Fate of Atlantis

Is anyone getting music in Fate of Atlantis?

It's not working for me. Tried [ and ]. Speech is working fine.

Using Windows XP, kxproject drivers for an SB live soundcard.

Even tried ScummVM to play the game I bought but as a previous poster indicated, this doesn't work.

goldy.

EDIT: Fixed! MIDI was disabled on my system! Now working. Yay. Cheers post #4.

Yeah, I'm only getting speech. No music. Tried turning off hardware acceleration in dxdiag, didn't make any difference. Anyone got a fix?

The game seems to be using the default MIDI output. For some reason, the MIDI output was muted in this computer. I haven't used it in a long while, and the mixer changed between WinXP and Win7 (haven't used Vista at all) so it took me a couple of minutes to figure it out.

I have an onboard audio chip, so my MIDI output is emulated by the driver. Depending on your audio chip/card that could also be a problem...

Well, what do you know? Un-muting the MIDI output of my sound card actually did work. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy and it was as simple as going into the control panel software and making sure the MIDI was no longer muted. I should have thought of that sooner. Thanks, enderwiggins.

N/p buddy. How does it sound with your card?

The MIDI emulation here is horrible, some instruments are way louder than others, making it sound too different from the original game...

Of course!!!

I didn't even think of that.. and I used to work in tech support :-P Midi.. blast from the past :-)

My SBlive drivers I mentioned don't play midi unless a soundfont is loaded. I'll find one and add it.

Nice one enger!

ps. I did find a really cool soundfont once, a big orchestral GM one, but I lost the link. If I can find it again I'll edit the post.

The music worked for me when I first got the game, but not anymore. I just tried deleting and then reinstalling the game, but that didn't help.

[EDIT] I had to go into:

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio Tab - MIDI music playback -> Volume

and then put the SW Synth slider back up to maximum. Somehow it got put down to zero.

I'm on Windows XP and using Realtek HD onboard audio.

Thank you for posting this!! I had no music at all (it's playable, but just not the same without the music). Now it works!
