Dead Island: Riptide speculation thread.

Dead Island: Riptide was announced at E3, but there are no details about it other than the fact that it will be a new game and not DLC for the current title.

Since there's no info about the game yet, this thread can be used for rampant speculation.

What do you think this is going to be? Where/when will it take place, and will it have new characters?

What kind of gameplay ideas and improvements would people like to see?

I think Riptide will take place at a different location, but with the same characters. They could do a side-story with new characters that runs concurrently with the events in the first game, but what locations on Banoi haven't been seen yet?

If they re-use the island, maybe have a flashback story? Set it in the World War II era, and at least that way there could be new geography and landmarks. Well, they could re-use the bunkers.

As for gameplay improvements, hopefully the story will be better. They should also fix the hit-detection and clipping issues.

Would guess 'chopper crash on another jungle island (so Techland can re-use their tile sets)

New story line and HOPEFULLY NEW CHARACTERS!!! (tho keeping Xian would be ok)

PLEASE:

No boooze throwing wino....

Get rid of that freakin' "AUTO EQUIP"

Dump the ramming door feature... this is just another "give a console player something to do with their buttons" feature that PC users don't need...

FULLY functioning hot keys.... No default 'f' key which still was used for some default functions even after being reprogrammed for something else.

Concentrait on... NPC's and items passing through or partially passing through solid objects, like walls, doors, ground or (the famous walkway near Mowen's boat that can swallow a fuel can)

Work on better drivers for PC versions...

Balance the leveling w/o those huge level jumps.

Stop stupid things like zombies jumping from 2nd/3rd floors and still running at you (their legs would have been crushed... "crawling at you maybe".

Work on the inventory so items don't fall out of you inventory... if the limit is full, stop it at "oh say 50" limit and then the player can't pick up any more or start another 'stack'

Figure out a way for thrown wepons to be 'found' if they don't boomagang (unless they're expended)

How about a "Cabana boy, a cop, a doctor and a dentist?" or "a Hooker, a politician, a programmer and a garbageman (he could convert the garbage truck...like the armored truck)

DI really had so much done right, its a shame so much was wrong... Mostly Work on "QUALITY CONTROL!!!"

Some other stuff I thought of:

- improve the gunplay and make the firearms expert (if there is one) a more appealing character to play as
- character classes should compliment each other in co-op with a variety of buffs unique to each character
- better vehicle handling and physics
- more environmental interaction, ie, kicking a zombie into water and then electrifying the water, or knocking over gas cans and setting the spilled gasoline ablaze
- implement some sort of level restriction option in co-op, so players aren't tossed into games with players way above them in levels

Oh yeah...The one major improvement.... "DUMP THE STUPID ESCORT MISSIONS!"

They never work right in any game.

There should be more of a penalty for dying instead of just losing 10% of your cash.

Replace the workbenches with a blacksmith-type character who will repair/modify your weapons. Makes more sense than paying money to a workbench.

Have a more serious tone. The original game came off as campy a lot of the time.

I think riptide should be about a tidal wave so large that it washes everything away including the zombies and city. It would make sense right? While your waiting for that wave you could go surfing.

I've already seen pre-orders for this game, so I don't have clue. $50 worth of something is happening to be first inline.

Pre-orders are only for consoles that I saw.

Well since riptides are currents that take you out to sea and are pretty impossible to swim against, I'm thinking that kind of 'futility of the situation' will be the game's tone. Like maybe the survivors get back to the city, only for it to have a zombie outbreak a little while later. Then you have to fight out of the big city and somehow reach a safe, untouched place... like another island. Much too Dawn of the Dead/ L4D-esque, but that's the best I got =P

Or you know, the title could have absolutely nothing to do with the new game and just be word added for flair. Also possible.

**(SPOILER)** Judging from the hints dropped in the game's end cutscene, I think the felon pilot you escape with will be the driving point for the new game. In one way or another.

Originally I heard the company trademarked the title "Dead World" and it was speculated that it would be the sequel to "Dead Island." But now that they're coming out with "Dead Island: Riptide", I'm thinking its a bridge between the storylines of "Dead Island" and (possibly) "Dead World."

I'd prefer they keep the characters of "Dead Island", well, at least only Sam B. because he was the only cool one. xD And yeah, I agree with this:

I'm always wondering why am I paying a workbench. xD I mean, what's it gonna do? Buy a lady workbench.

Another thing I'd like for them to tweak a bit would be how the single-player gameplay goes. It does focus on multiplayer heavily (in my opinion) so if someone is playing solo it'll be more difficult for them which I don't think is fair. :/ Fortunately, I had my best friend as my co-op player but still, I don't think its fair to the other single players.

Some patches would be nice too. Or at least really inspect the game before releasing. I know the PC version of this game (which I own) had a lot of glitches. :T It'd be nice to get most of them out of the way or it'll be like my friend who couldn't play Sam B. a second time around for the longest time because there was a glitch on her experience point (it was resolved when we skipped to the last boss battle of the game but we didn't know that for weeks).

My main thing is the glitches and problems the PC version presented. I'm not sure if the console had as many problems. Either way, I'd like for them to test it more than they did for "Dead Island."

Also, is this officially a sequel or an indirect sequel? I keep hearing both.

Not a sequel. Their official announcement:

On June 5, 2012, at E3 2012, Techland officially announced another game in the Dead Island universe, that is not a sequel, under the title Dead Island: Riptide.
Emphasis is mine.

Maybe it'll be like what Assassin's Creed Brotherhood/Revelations is to Assassin's Creed 2?

Not full sequels, but more than mere expansions/add-ons.
