Petition to hide badges option

There are many people, including myself, who weren't able to get the completed Steam Summer Sale 2012 badge (mine was due to credit card issues) and the fact that some of us were just one goal away, makes the whole badge disappointing. I can understand this as bit of a problem to those who have very sentimental profiles as well (Full 8 years, completed potato sack achievements, etc), but had perhaps go on vacation and missed a day of voting, or missed one of the other goals.

I don't see why it would be a problem to just be able to hide the badges from our profile, and I'm sure there are many who could agree. It's a small change that wouldn't affect those who don't want to hide their badges, but it would make people like me very happy

You have to come up with a better reason for hiding badges than "cause I want to..." A change, regardless of size, takes time and money. BTW, every change is small...

My excuse isn't "cause I want to", like I said, its an option for a feature that I'm sure many people might want. I remember there were a ton of people complaining about how they missed out on one goal because they were gone for a day, their internet was screwed up, and I'm sure if I remember correctly, people were complaining about problems involving their time zone.

Go look at the badges thread, there are plenty of people complaining that they aren't satisfied with the badges. I'm not saying Steam should just completely remove the feature because a bunch of people don't like it, but like I said, I think the option of being able to hide it for those of us who aren't pleased with the badges would be quite nice, as it doesn't affect those who do like the badges, but I'm sure it would make many people happy.

1+. All those badges look ugly as (no offense) and are pretty much useless. Why would I want to see people that I voted a few times during the Steam Summer Sale 2012 and got some badge with an unfinished treehouse?

Check my profile, there are 7 badges already. Now imagine 1-2 more every year, only because I bought stuff during events or voted for something.

I missed out by one vote to get a fancier badge.

I demand a time machine to go fix it.

No actually can I change my mind and use it to go forward till HL3 is released.

Actually no, I want a 1 dig steam account.

No, no I want to meet Gabe.

Wait, can I have some indecision instead?

The badges are just like most video game achievements. They are just for fun, they aren't required, and only immature people judge you for not having one. Its not like you missed out on getting a free game or anything.

I check them when trading and are a very good pointer, other than that you could hide them.

I dont understand why you want to hide the successful badges?

Failed badges does not show up at all. Only badges that are able to finalize is shown ("complete these tasks to get the badge"). When you pass the deadline without finalizing the badge, nobody can see that you failed or even attempted the badge, and when you look at the badge screen, you can't even see that you missed a badge.

So basically, failed badges are already hidden. Why hide successful badges?

If you don't want any badges all (except for X years of service badge), just dont complete any badges. In most times, you don't only need to vote or purchase something, you need to do a plethora of things to get the badge, so if you don't want badges, just skip one item on the checklist and you will not get any badge when deadline is over.
Theres no getting badges by mistake, you must really hunt them to get them.

Badges that the user has partially completed are also shown. Some users are jarated that they did't get the complete summer sale badge and instead have one of the incomplete versions.
