Mass Effect 1 won't launch

I've had a steam account for long, and I used to play Mass Effect 1 on it.

I dropped it for a while, and then bought another laptop, this time with Windows seven (no idea if it's part of the problem).

I decided to reinstall Steam and ME, and after it finished downloading I tried to launc it. I had the window saying it's preparing for launching, but then nothing happens. I tried reinstalling eveything, but still nothing.

What could be the problem ? What can I do ?

Are you running the game as an Administrator? (Right-click, Run As Administrator)

From the Mass Effect store page:

* WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS 7 USERS: Launching “Mass Effect” from Steam requires the setting “Run as Administrator”. If the User Account Control feature of Windows Vista is enabled, launching “Mass Effect” from Steam will result in failure. For users with User Account Control enabled, launch Steam using the “Run as Administrator” option or launch from the windows shortcut.

Nor the shortcut nor running steam as the administrator work...

I also recently purchased Mass Effect and also have windows 7. It hasn't launched and I also tried all of the steps you said earlier, and still no luck. I was wondering if you ever got it started?
