Steam Client Beta Available

There's a new Steam Beta client available. To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings. On the Account tab press the Change... button to open the Beta Participation dialog. Then Select "Steam Beta Update", and allow Steam to restart itself. Here are the specific changes:

- Fixed creating shortcuts for games with Unicode names
- Better Mouse Scrolling on Mac when using mighty mouse or trackpads
- New content system now supports preloading and shared content
- Grid view supports more kinds of PNG images (e.g. grayscale, grayscale with alpha)

- Fixed back/forward buttons not working correctly when searching in the store or viewing workshop discussions
- Fixed accidentally deleting shared content (eg Quake 3 Area and Quake 3 Team Area)
- Fixed creating shortcuts for games with a “?” in their name
- Fixed finished preload getting stuck in “Preload suspended” state

8/14/2012

- Fixed tools appearing in games page
- Fixed “Open link in new tab” in overlay browser

8/15/2012

- Reduced disc load while updating games using the new content system

8/16/2012

- Fixed broken offline mode if Steam process didn't shutdown correctly
- Reduced disc usage while applying game updates

8/17/2012

- Fixed friends tab getting stuck on some pages for Steam Community Beta users
- Fixed friends list filter not matching nicknames for Steam Community Beta users

8/18/2012

- Fixed crash when clicking a link in the HTML control on Mac OSX

8/21/2012

- Fixed retail install failing in some cases if user needed to accept new SSA
- Fixed joining password protected content betas in some cases

8/22/2012

- Fixed the retail Counter-Strike: Global Offensive disc not installing files

9/03/2012

- Fixed Steam crashing when launching games on Windows XP

I'll be trying it but I have to ask: are you folks ever going to fix the Library/scrolling issue in Windows7? I'm about sick of it and have been for months now...

Say you have many catagories but only have your window sized to show a few of them, you can NOT scroll to the bottom of the list unless the very last catagory is open. You can get close but as soon as you scroll one click more, it bounces right back to the top of the list.

Does this mean games using the Source Engine shared content can now be put onto the new content system?

When you unblock a friend same dialog is shown as blocked one.. Don't remember this ever happening and it does it on stable build as well.

EDIT: report bug link needs updating too

All windows scroll nice now altho just ridiculously fast.

Would be nice to fix the scroll bug as well.
in the client it jitters up and down while scrolling though the store.

Only fix atm is to set your mouse to scroll 6 lines instead of 3.

When I updated doom 3: resurrection of evil, quake mission pack 2 and quake 3 team arena updated. Something to do with the new content system I guess?

Yep, and they weren't ever listed under Tools neither (not for me anyway).
