Captcha - It appears to be broken

The Captcha on the main site appears to be completely broken. I can login to the Steam client with no issue but if I try to log into the site I get an error.

Is there anyway around this? Captcha is such an awful authentication system

After about the 20th attempt I finally got a message that asked me to verify my account using a code I got through my email. I have no clue what changed on that attempt. The Captcha wasn't even one of the more impossible ones to decipher...it just all of a sudden worked.
