I have to chime in as well and say that I wish we had a more definitive release date. It actually doesn't have to be anytime soon...I would be pleased if they gave a date of December 12th or something. Just at least so I knew exactly when it was coming out.
Its just difficult to feel like I can purchase anything else at the moment. I really want to get in on the DayZ thing going on but I'm hesitant to put the money down on it not knowing if Torchlight 2 will be released the next week. |

Yes yes finish it make it bug free... but i'm still crossing my fingers that it reaches us by summer's end. The last few quoted dates ("about a month or so after D3" and "summer") have been more realistic than those in the past, and they've got to have poured so much time into it by now it's gotta be close.
Again, fingers crossed before the end of Summer (September 21 this year). <3 Torchlight! |

![]() But I feel I should point out the devs (Travis Baldree in particular) are releasing detailed weekly updates regarding their progress. The most recent is here. |

It's kinda trying my patience as well. I'd be surprised if it was released in Summer, to tell the truth.
They're doing polish, they've been doing it for weeks, and it will probably take weeks yet. If the blog post says in the first sentence "I'm close to wrapping polish on Act 2" and in the last sentence "In the upcoming week, it is my aim to complete Act 2 polish entirely if I can", so he's not sure it can be done in a week even though it's close to being wrapped up? Then there's Act 3, and Act 4, which still need polish also, how many weeks is that going to take? I realize there's more than one person working and it's happening in parallel to some degree, but still... Basically this whole process reads a lot like "it's going to take much longer than anticipated". I'm sure it will be a good game but there just aren't enough weeks in Summer to finish it. And if you consider that people have been waiting already this time last year (not preorder but it was announced with tons of promises for 2011 after all - they even went as far as saying it'd come out 2011 unless someone on the team died), this game is sure taking its sweet time. We can consider ourselves lucky if it comes out in 2012. They should announce the next game for 2020 and then release a year or two early. This would be much less frustrating than the other way around. |

It's not the first game I PO'd and got a few delays. I do have quite a lot of patience though more than the average person probably.
I primarily think that when all things are said and done people prefer quality over quick access. Giving a date was probably a mistake they will never make again. I think most people would forgive that if pre-order allowed them Beta access as well. |

Fun fact: there will be bugs anyways. Every game that's not a movie has them on release.
I wonder if Runic employees work more than 5 hours a day, because holy crap you can't seriously be re-re-re-repolishing ONE act for two weeks, that's got procrastinating written all over it. |

I don't understand this logic, and it seems many people all across Steam share it. If you want it, get it. Buying Arma2 for DayZ doesn't invalidate your pre-order. Both will remain in your Games list until the end of time, and nobody is demanding you play TL2 immediately upon release. It's usually better that you don't play a game within the first few weeks of release while they iron out the bugs the early-adopters find.

"No one will remember if the game is late, only if it's great."
I really hope this is not another case of.... well what Milt said. |

If you're looking for word from the devs you are going to be disappointed on steam for sure. Head over to the official torchlight forums and you might find some better answers. They've been fantastic the last few weeks with interacting with the community and posting updates. Top notch stuff.

page 1, Runic post saying thats the first he's heard of it, 2nd page.. it's not true. it's an older thread, and Runic has a thread with updates in it that is accurate, unlike the thread you posted. once again… THERE IS NO SET DATE YET. If it's NOT posted/announced by RUNIC…. it's simply not true. |

A few reminders:
Runic is a small team. You know how it takes nineteen minuntes to sit through the thousand+ people mentioned in the Diablo III credits? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deK4hGpsPRA Runic has about 30 people, I think. That's it. That means: - a distinctive style throughout, with consistency and handcrafted balancing - a genuinely fun culture of people that actually like each other, making an entertainment experience that reflects that - really, really, slow polishing passes that only get slower with more content - no extraneous "making of" documentary movies, etc oh, and: - a $20 price tag which gets even cheaper during sales If that isn't your cup of tea, that's fine, too. |
