AMD Update - July 2012

Surprised the developer didn't post this here too:

Quote:
Word from the Volition team on AMD issues:

Hey everyone,

It's been a few months since Saints Row: The Third hit Steam and as you know an issue has come up where certain AMD/ATi GPU's are experiencing micro-stuttering and general performance drops on capable machines. This has mostly been seen with cards in the 5xxx or 6xxx range.

Our team has provided multiple patches and updates attempting to correct this issue by adjusting key parts of Saints Row: The Third at the guidance of AMD/ATi, and they have shown mild improvement. Those with SLI no longer see micro-stuttering, and based on our performance tests, we've been able to increase overall performance. For those with affected cards, we're still not up the level of quality we all expect from a Volition game, and we thank you for your patience as we work with AMD for a solution. As soon as we have more updates regarding this issue, we'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks again,

VOLITION

Unfortunately it doesn't really say much other than "we are still working on it and don't know when it will be fully corrected". Fortunately I have a newer machine now that doesn't have this problem but before I definitely experienced what everyone else did where it would be a choppy 20FPS or less even on the lowest possible visual settings.

I'm getting 40 - 55 fps & random drops to 30 with shadows and lightning on low @ 1080p , should be much more but very playable and seems like some good work went into it for PC, except ATI just fail with their drivers and i will never buy one of their cards again

Spec:

I7 920 @ 4GHZ
6GB Ram
ATI 5870
Win 7 64 bit

Other than that disappointment ... great game

very cool of them, seems like they are 100% aware of the exact problem --

"certain AMD/ATi GPU's are experiencing micro-stuttering and general performance drops on capable machines. This has mostly been seen with cards in the 5xxx or 6xxx range"

can't wait for the fix!

its been 9 months now and they we are all still in the same spot....

Well, I gave up for now. I have an AMD card in that range and no matter what resolution I play, the game is a choppy unplayable mess. So, I deleted the game and will either:

1. Wait until I buy that new desktop in 2013.
2. Wait for that patch to show up.

A shame as I think the game is awesome but if I can't even optimize it, what's the point of playing it?

Funny thing is, even Binary Domain plays fine on my laptop and its gotten a lot of flak for being a console port.

I might be the only person to play each game in the series on a different platform. Saints Row on the 360, Saints Row 2 on PS3 and Saints Row The Third on PC.

Nvidia, whooohooowho. Amazing that so many companies develop just for nvidia. Borderlands is the same way. Not like Nvidia has 80 percent of the market?

In my timezone it has almost been a year.

They've switched to using the Valve calendar

The new WHQL for the gtx 660ti has an updated SLI profile for this game, maybe a fix for AMD folks is on the way too?
