Lightbulb More customization features for Library

For most Steam users, Library is everything, and as such, it needs to be more customizable.
Personally, I collect video games, and it's really painful to, let's say, see my games arranged in a weird order in my Library (ex. Assassin's Creed order: AC1, AC:B, AC2, AC3 (soon), AC:R)

So, here are the features that are essential and have (or must) be implemented:
  • Rename games (Some users prefer a tag of their game's edition in the game's name, like Gold Edition or Ultimate Edition, and from what I've seen, some of the games on Steam have such tag (ex. UT3: Black Edition, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition), but most of them do not.)
  • Rearrange games (I mentioned the AC example earlier, but it's the same thing with other franchises, like the Alien Breed games order: AB2, AB3, AB1, which makes no sense, and rearranging them in a chronological order would be perfect for any video game lover, and most of the Steam users certainly are.)
  • Rearrange categories (A lot of players tend to have their favorite category/genre at the top of the list, and also for pretty much the same reasons as the previous feature.)
  • Hide games (Every now and then when I log into Steam, I see new trial/beta games in my Library, and I must admit that I absolutely hate it. But that's not the only case; some games (ex. GTA) have their Mac versions as a separate game in the Library, and the only way to hide these unwanted games is to set them in a category, but this is only a poorly improvised solution to the problem because that game category interferes with the others, therefore players are obligated to name that one category with a starting letter Z, so it can be arranged as the last category in the list. The true solution would be an option to hide unwanted games and a button to show those hidden games.)
  • Add note/comment (It would be nice to have some info for a game, written personally by the user, whether it is a personal review, a useful link or a tip. Here's an example: Browsing or trying to remember the same mods every time one installs a particular game is a pain in the neck. Adding direct links to those mods as a note would be great. I mentioned a review, so the next feature...)
  • Add review/rating (Although I mentioned it as a part of the "Add comment" feature, it would be really useful to have a review and a (5 star concept) rating option. If implemented properly, these ratings and reviews could be gathered as feedback from the players towards the developers.)
  • Add sub-title (By 'sub-title' I mean sub-text under the game's title where players could type in a game's attribute, such as the game's edition (like I said earlier: Ultimate Edition, Gold Edition, etc.), the playing mode (Single Player, Multiplayer), genre and so on.)
  • Integrate expansions (Instead of showing the expansions and/or DLCs (like the Deus Ex: Missing Link DLC or the HL2 episodes for example) of a game in the Library as separate games, they should be integrated within the main game and installed along with it, just like most DLCs. This gives the feeling of the games being complete.)
  • Show Free-to-Play games in Library (An option to show a Free-to-Play game in the Library permanently, instead of it being removed after the game is uninstalled. Example: If one would like to have, let's say, Black Messa: Source permanently in their Library as a part of their Half-Life Collection, uninstalling it would remove it from their Library. This feature should fix that.)

The following features only apply to Detailed View mode:
  • Edit Game Info (The "game info" currently showing in every single game's detailed view window is useless. The game info should be consisted of a short description of the game's plot, some of its most significant features, publisher, game version, genre and release date. The game info should be either: [1] put together by Valve, [2] freely typed by the user, or [3] by filling up a form with empty fields by the user.)
  • Hide Recent News (An option to hide the Recent News section, as some of the players are not interested in it, and also the place it takes in the window could be used for other uses.)
  • Show Personal Review (The feature I mentioned earlier about rating and writing a personal review about the game deserves its own section here.)
  • Show Expansions/DLCs (A grid-view list with the names, pictures and short description of their content of the bought/available expansions and DLCs should be showed in the game's window, instead of taking the user to another page after clicking the DLC link in the Links list.)
  • Show System Requirements (An option to show/hide the game's minimum and recommended system requirements.)
  • Widen/Narrow the game list (Some games, such as the Warhammer series, have longer names which results with them showing in the games list with shortened names. The List View viewing style already has this option, so an option to widen the games list for Detailed View should also be implemented.)
All these features and options should be per-game.

Thank you for reading my post! If anyone has any more ideas to improve our Libraries, let me know in the comments.

This would actually be a really great idea, and something that would make the library a little bit more interesting.

Yeah, and I would love that all sections in the detailed view (achievements, friends, news, workshop) should be optional so we can hide the sections we don't want. Also it should be per game.

And the option to hide games, we should be able to hide games completely from the account, like if we didn't ever had them, only listed in a special "hidden games" page in the community, only accessible to us that would let us restore these hidden games in case we want to play them.

"Set Category" thing should be synced with Steam Cloud.

really want to be able to arrange my games in my own order. dislike how theyre in ABC order, want them in my own order. also, some games that have sequals with different names are scattered all over the place.

One of the best topics I've seen discussed here. Couldn't agree more! Thank you for posting it.

I'm glad you like it guys and thank you for your kind words. I really hope such features become reality soon, especially now with the forthcoming Steam updates.

I really love these ideas!

On the DLC screen, it would be nice if it could do something similar to how Steam does Achievements. When you see the DLC screen/icons it will show an icon and the name and if the icon is black and white, we don't have the DLC, when we do have the icon colored in, we own it.

It would make sorting out what DLC we're missing SO much easier. Then we can easily write them down and get them later. I've passed on a few sales just cause I'm not wanting to have to do a lot of cross checking just for DLC on one game (sorry Magicka and others).

Also, "drag and drop" library sorting would be a beautiful thing too. Then we wouldn't always have to do a rename method of organizing. Although, the rename method would probably still make it a lot easier for Steam to make the Library show up the same on different PCs...

Exactly my thoughts of how to solve the library sorting problem.

I'm missing the possibility to make the list of games wider, so I can see the names all the way long and the downloading progresses too.

Wow, I never noticed that. It's going to the list of features right away. Thanks!
