Display Help needed

I am running a system with the following specs:
Windows 7 - 64 bit
i3 2120
8gb RAM
Asus GTX 550 Ti (HDMI output)
Coby 40" HDTV (HDMI input)

I played Team Fortress 2 and it played in 720p resolution fine the first time around. Now all of a sudden, steam updated randomly and it won't do that anymore? It's only allowing me to run the game in 648x420 or something low like that. Then it quits the game after the valve logo screen.

Hope this is enough info to get some help
