75% off coupon expired early?

Like many others, I had a 75% off coupon for Portal 2, which I intended to give to a friend today. The coupon said it expired August 30, so I thought as long as I got a hold of my friend sometime today that it'd be fine, since usually, in Steam-time, a given day ends on the next day at 12:00pm CST. I still had the coupon at 1:20pm CST, but now it's gone. Why did it expire in the middle of the afternoon? Why did it say it was good through the 30th if it wasn't going to last the whole day? And why was it not giftable?

Valve could have made another sale had they not made trading the only way to get rid of the thing...

I couldn't even find anyone who wanted my coupon anyway. Everyone I know who wants Portal 2 would pay full price. =P

Anyway, anything that says "Expires on" usually means, on that day, it'll expire. Technically, it was suppose to expire exactly on the 30th, so you actually had extra time to use it.

Also, the coupon is "giftable." You trade it.

First off, it's not a code, it's a Coupon.

Secondly, it's expired.
