SteamGuard was used because the first time I needed to authorize the computer (/browser). If that validation isn't steamguard then i guess I must have it wrong...

I don't know - but I'm not prepared to go through validation every time I log in on one of my other computers, or possibly risk the security of my Steam account if Steam are bypassing SteamGuard to let you access the forums without the validation email on different computers. I wouldn't use my Bank account details to enter a forum, and I'm not going to risk all my Steam purchases by doing that.

I like this forum better anyway. It's well established with a great bunch guys helping people out. For me it would be like starting over, and I don't want to keep validating from computer to computer like you indicated.

I find those new forums too tightly controlled and uninviting.
I know a few helpful people now have posted in this thread the link to the "Join Group" button, but that's not the point. No-one has told me how to find the link myself, and nor should they have to. it should be obvious to find, not tucked away in some obscure page. So far I haven't found it by clicking around. That's either very bad design, or a deliberate attempt to deter users. The fact that the Steam games list forum link now links to the new forum is also a sign that these forums are going to be phased out. I'll give it another year - and these forums will be locked - viewing only, while we are advised to use the new one. It's a move towards owning and controlling the social content of a game, like we saw with GTA 4's "Social Club". I eblieve we'd be better off moving to a custom forum to be honest, such as UKTS forum. The new Steam forum approach is one of those "trends" that is basically forced on us whether we want it or not through "updates" - the kind we see nearly all the time now with mobile phone apps, or with Facebook, or Google; the kind that don't just fix bugs or add new features; but which may actually change significantly the content of the application and usually erode our privacy even more. I'm disappointed that Steam have taken this approach, and also that they've opted to become a Facebook zombie. The problem is, most people out there don't realise how bad Facebook is - it's almost like the Emperor's new clothes. Facebook is very poorly written, poorly developed and flawed application. That's just from a technical point of view. Then we have the social implications - which I'm not going to go into here. |

If they close this forum so be it, there are others Ragnokak as a good one as does Marleyman, this one would soon be forgotten.

They will never change or get rid of this Forum. The groups are more like chat, not support and help.
BTW, wanna join a group? It's easy. In Steam, go to Communities. Click on Profile. On the right hand side you will see groups. There's Railworkers, Don's group, or Railworks 3 Train Simulator 2013 Deluxe The 2 I belong to, anyways) |
