Validating steam files...

Is anyone else having an issue with steam trying to validate tf2 the first time you launch it after starting steam? It seems to happen every time for me lately. Passed week or so.

You are not alone, just this passed couple of days I've had to wait up to an hour to validate before playing - this is absolutely ridiculous.
It starts to validate - gets to 100% and doesnt move for 10-20 minutes - I restart steam then try again only to go through the same process again.

I've just read on other forums three methods that I'm currently trying out:
First is to right click the game in steam and defragment cache files, this is a currently 1/3 of the way through after 10 minutes so be prepared to wait.
Second option is to delete AppUpdateStats.blob and ClinetRegistry.blob in your steam folder, then restart steam.
Third is to delete everything in your steam folder except steamapps and steam folders. Good luck.

I've managed to stop the constant validating by defraging the tf2 cache files before & after every tf2 session ( even though there is no defragmentation )

It almost always happens when I launch TF2 but thankfully it only takes about 5 minutes to validate.

I get this too, but when mine reaches 15%, I just cancel it and start up TF2 again.

The only fix I ever found was to delete your Clientregistry.blob file in the Steam folder and then the GCF files one by one (in the steam apps folder), restart steam, let them re-download, start TF2, rinse and repeat until you find the bad one.

Validating is supposed to repair broken ones but it doesn't seem to work worth a damn...

It's done it to me in the past but recently it's getting rediculous. It'll just start validating now when I'm doing nothing with TF2 at all. I'll be surfing the net then up pops the window saying Steam validating TF2 files like wtf. Of course like many issues with this game I don't expect Valve to do jack .

I have tried all three options and nothing is working.

I then tried something with the steam game files and steam now thinks none of my games are installed, even though I returned them all to their original places :'(
