Left 4 Dead 2 Free Weekend

Straight from the blog:

http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=9170

Quote:
To celebrate Halloween, we are unleashing L4D2 on the world. Starting this Thursday, the entire game will be free to play for the whole weekend. New players can begin pre-loading now. For long time players, it is time to welcome your new found friends and help them survive the zombie apocalypse.

For current players, we created a new achievement. Good Guy Nick - – “Plays games with free weekend players and helps them survive a campaign.” Who is a free weekend player? You’re going to have to talk to each other to find out or you could always let your friends know Left 4 Dead 2 is going to be free this weekend and have them join you. Spread the word! It’s the zombie apocalypse, bring friends.

So how do you preload a game before buying it?
Steam support doesn't offer any clues.
And Google just points out that this happens after a pre-purchase for an unreleased game.

If it's avaliable it should be at the bottom of your Steam games list as if you've just bought it, with the option to install. Try restarting Steam (obviously as an owner of the game I can't confirm whether it's avaliable yet).

Whilst this is good in many ways I'm probably going to avoid the game this weekend. Well versus anyway. I don't mind helping newbs in campaign but it's too frustrating in versus.

So is this link the only way someone can get it for the free weekend?

If someone visits the store page, will this link or some other link or information about the free weekend be available?

Don't you guys normally feature games in the store or have a news popup on steam for games with free weekends?

Will there be an achievement for being friendly-fired 100 times in a single campaign?

Joking aside, it'll be nice to get a new influx of players introduced to the game. It's been tougher to find good games lately, and these L4D nubs will become consistent and good players given time.

Well, at least until the worst part of the competitive community chases them off.

But don't those primarily come out at night? During the day it seems to be mostly casuals and kids, but as it gets on towards the evening the more hardcore seem to show up. It makes me leery about playing during the evening, as I hate being votekicked.

Good. Now Xbox players can get a taste of the PC version. Wonder how that will go...

I really do wonder if people are going to show newbies the ropes or tell them to get off the game the minute they keep screwing up in VS.
