Exclamation Borderlands Uninstalled on Its Own

Ok this is something I dont get. I played Borderlands just yesterday, and it was working fine. Today when I went to play, I loaded up Steam, but then I had to restart it because of some update...but then it crashed. So I went to start it again. I found that Borderlands had uninstalled itself from my Steam. But in the Game App folder, the game is clearly still installed. So two questions really:

What happened to my Borderlands installation, and will my user files, character levels, weapons, etc all be there when I supposedly reinstall this game? Or is everything lost permanently due to this epic fail crash?

Yes your gamesave data will still be thier, uninstalling games doesn't delete gamesaves ussually.

They should be here for BL1:

C:\Users\ < user account >\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\SaveData

and here for BL2:

C:\Users\< user account >\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2\WillowGame\SaveData\< random number folder >\

Gladly I had backed up my game previously and now have the installation on my hard disk, along with my game save folder...

So I install, and everything will be back to normal? I'll give it a try. *crosses fingers*

Same thing happened to me. I'd been playing earlier today, and just came back to my computer now to see that it's "uninstalled" itself. The game data is all still on my drive though, so I have no idea WTF's going on. (I was afraid my HDD was going bad or something!)

I'm "reinstalling" now--it's not actually downloading anything, and is already at 1.2GB after ~15 seconds...way faster than my internet speeds have ever gone. Hopefully once it "reinstalls" all will be well.

WTF, Steam. WTF.

just to chime in... this happened to me as well. Played Borderlands earlier today, came back tonight to play some more and it was "uninstalled." Clicked "install" and it came back very quickly... as if all the files were still on my computer and the game was already installed!

Weird.

Also reporting here for this strange issue. And the weirdest thing is that in my Windows' installed programs list, Borderlands still shows up. The shortcuts are also where they should be, but clicking them brings up the installation Steam window. VERY weird.

(edit: my other installed games weren't affected)

Thumbs up

This has also happened to me. Curious enough, right the day after the game asked to be converted to the new Steam format.

After clicking install, the Steam client has just reviewed all the Borderlands files in the hard drive and started the game. So, no tedious downloads; everything is still on your hard drive. I have retained all the saved games and save points. I would bet that this is part of the format transformation - but Steam should really inform us about it
