Tf2 startup crash

I get this error message when i try open tf2, usually have to ctrl + alt + delete and end process for steam, but even that's not working 100%.

The message is as follows:

Steamstartup() failed steamstartup(0xf 0039DF18) failed with error 1: The registry is in use by another process, timeout expired

Its only begun happening this week, and I've got no idea why, some help would be very nice

Yeah, same here. I guess the new update something.

If you want to play in one long sitting, I recommend verifying the game files. But after playing it one time and closing it, it was back to erroring...

Same thing happening to me. Afaik no changes in my operating environment to prompt this.

I suspect it's another iteration of the forced verification bug. It just seems strange that this starts after a steam update, verification solves it and that the automatic verification bug doesn't occur for me now.

Still having this problem, tried one of the fixes that Peluxa linked but that just made my skype and xfire etc not load up when i turned pc on, and still didn't fix the problem, all i can do now is open the task manager, and end process for steam but that works maybe once, and sometimes nothing at all, been reading some posts on forums and seems like no fixes at all to sort this out, maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the game but i really cant be bothered with my slow download speeds, also tried defragmenting files in steam for tf2, pretty jarated off by this, i just wanna come home from work and play some tf2..
