Sorry guys but an in-game video player is just impossible. I moded my steam community so I can watch videos on youtube and my FPS dropped from 132 (in GarrysMod) to 3 when I tried to click on a video. It's been tested in Lua and its just not possible.

That's a video player. Music would be less demanding.

I've never used the media player but it sounds cool, so they should bring it back.

Garry's Mod tutorials (ingame) = video player.
Team Fortress 2 official maps have in-game video too...

A music or video player available in game would be really useful as it would stop me from minimizing my game to change songs on Winamp. But I don't think I would need a video player in game, as I would be playing the game. So just a in game music player would be fine.

However it would be interesting to have tutorial videos at the beginning of Counter Strike Source like Team Fortress 2.

I use Winamp and I don't think a steam media player is a good idea, I'd rather have steam focussed strictly on games and games community (eg. the game overlay and chatting).

I'd rather see more options in those areas. For example, I'm not impressed with the steam VoIP feature. It's convenient but sadly very choppy compared to other programs such as Vent or TS.

It should be able to work shouldn't it, at least in Source games? Unreal 2004 had an mp3 (or ogg, because they had to be difficult) player which ran fine.

Although saying that it's probably a lot of work for a small payout.
