@ Dragonoxx
Yeah, this review convinced me: http://www.driverheaven.net/news/162...round-web.html @ Darknight It's just the headache of having to constantly set up profiles and tweak my SLi. Ok, so in Armed Assault, SLi causes an nvdisp.dll BSOD after about 20 minutes, so i have to disable SLi and get 15 FPS in dense areas. Source seems to benefit from alternate frame rendering 2, whereas Mass Effect seems to be happy with regular SLi. Gears of War had weird jerking issues, so i had to tweak some of the optimizations. Crysis seems to work better with split frame rendering (from what i've seen). It's just the constant repetition of reading the nVidia SLi forums, tweaking my drivers, going into game, benchmarking, and doing it over and over... And always having that nag in the back of my head that i might be able to get a few extra frames if i disable/enable something in NV CP. I just want a raw power card that will render everything as its supposed to, without too much intervention from my end. Don't get me wrong, i love tweaking and tinkering with everything, but SLi requires too much micromanagement. @ Rotndude I'm sort of in a hurry to sell my 9800GX2 before it depreciates in value too much. What is the ETA on the 4870? Thanks everyone. |

Yeah i understand why its a hassle, tbh i usually leave the settings to default as much as possible because if a game runs 60 fps on 1920x1200 i just leave it there, i always got vsync on and theres prettymuch no use in trying to get more fps.
And to think i still run those 2 cards on an E6600 at stock speed. |

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing in the next few weeks. IIRC, the NDA may be lifted next week, but don't hold my feet to the fire on that.

According to that graph AMD made about what their cards compete against etc, the 4870 was supposed to come out July 8.
But since their date for the 4850 is wrong, the date for the 4870 might be wrong as well. |

I've got no problem with ATi or getting a 4870 (if it's good)... My problem is that my 9800GX2 is rapidly depreciating, and i need to sell the bugger quick smart, before everyone catches wind of the GTX280's dominance.
Curse ATi >:( |

Why not Crossfired HD 4850's? Or even a single 4850. Right now, it's faster than the 9800GTX with AA enabled, and performance will rise with every driver release.

Don't bother waiting for the 4870. Optimally, it's going to be competing with the GT260, not the GT280, and so I would reckon it to be beneath your notice.
ATi is going to be content with the mid-range for quite a while. Nvidia... Only thing I've heard is a 55nm version of the GT200 series. It might include a rehash of the 280 with minor improvements, or it might be only the as-yet-unreleased 260. Chances are, like with the 8800GTX, Nvidia isn't going to change their top-performing flagship for a long while, since all they really need is more presence in the mid-range. If they do need bigger, they'll probably resort to a 280GX2. (To the despair of Greenpeace.) |

I say go ahead and sell it, the GTX 280 is definetly going to be the best single card of this release.

They are looking to be the definition of bang-for-the-buck. AND, they will hang pretty darn close with the 260 and 280 from nVidia while being much, much cheaper. I'm loving this new competition (both pricing and performance) AMD/ATI is throwing into the GPU market.
