Silent Hunter 5 Failed to Start

Hello. I have been able to play SH5 with no problems up until a few weeks ago. Now, when I try to load the game, I receive the following error: "Silent Hunter 5 Failed to Start (error code 51)"

I tried verifying integrity of my game files on Steam. I even uninstalled/re-installed the game. Same problem.

I am running Windows 7 Home Edition. I did recently receive Windows updates. However I doubt that is the problem because I performed a system restore back to the time when the game was working.

I run other games on Steam without this problem. I have been unable to find any solution online.

Can someone please offer possible solutions?

Incidentally, I should mention Steam tries to install .NET version 2.0 on my machine, every time I load the game. It also says it is installing it for the "first time", even though it has done this ever since I got the game. However, the game always ran with no problems anyway. I'm wondering if Windows Updates installed a newer version of .NET, and that's causing the present problem of error code 51?

I recently purchased a new Asus G53SX laptop, fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Installed Steam.

When attempting to launch SH5, dot Net 2.0 SP1 always installs. Silent Hunter then attempts to update the launcher. This appears briefly (< 1 second) then crashes to desktop.

The Asus G53SX has a nVidia 560M mobile gphx adapter. The system has 12gig of system memory. I've enabled the .Net in the Windows features also.

Is anyone able to shed any light on why SH5 can't update its own launcher? Appreciate your responses.

Today I made the mistake of buying another Ubi game. I know there is a very high risk with that decision.. but I did.

So, the game does not start. Exactly the same problem described by the other guys here...

Someone got any clues on how to make this game run?

I found out the problem is with the Ubisoft Launcher. (Yes, their launcher is bugged aswell as all their programs).

You must reinstall it manually.

Now, the game runs ok. But if I alt+tab it to minimize and go to windows, it just closes.

Oh, almost forgot, the game is unable to save options or save games.
