It may be something as simple as the gpu cooler/fan being dusty and not able to get rid of the heat fast enough. That is easy to test though, if the sound level of the cooling fan on it steadily climbs during use, then it's normally a clear sign that it needs cleaning.

A way to test if it is dying is to play a graphic intensive 3d game, if the card is on it's way to the graveyard it will often display graphical artifacts, or even have some texture missing in games

Hey,
so i have the problem with the game starting in blackscreen too.
i have a dual screen build. i have sound though.
i've played in windowed and that just works fine. my monitors are different size. second ones native is 1440x900. i was able to play fullscreen on monitor 2 after i started windowed, but not if i started fullscreen directly on 2.
hope this helps a bit

I have blue flickering dots in steam, but ONLY on black... and...oddly enough primarily in the steam menu. Most prominent in the section where games are downloading. It's very odd.

About sound, my CPU fan is revving like crazy, but it's old and i wont bother replacing it until October when windows 8 is coming out. I'll be getting a good setup.

About the bluescreen bug i really don't feel like trying to replicate it :S if you feel that it will be very useful i can try i guess...

No BSOD so far, game only working in fullscreen.

I got the drivers last week so they should be new...

Everyone reporting in here has dual screen setups, maybe that's a lead?

Does this happen on both monitors or just one of them ?

I have dual monitor setup, and things are fine here I can run both in windowed and full screen mode. Though I am on a dual 5850 setup, so not an nvidia card

You have monitors with 2 different resolutions if I am not mistaken.
Does that mean you are running a laptop with a secondary monitor or just a regular desktop with 2 different monitors ?

I have a desktop system with 2 diffrent sized monitors.
So since my frieds who only have one monitor can play the game without problems, i think it's because of the two monitors. But can't imagine why.
