BTW, if anyone is still wondering about the probability of duplicate keys this is the Birthday Problem. Depending on the size of the keyspace it won't take much to hit a duplicate.

I ran into this same issue with both my copy of AI War, and UT3.
I pm'd BurtonJ about AI War a few days ago, awaiting a response. However I suspect I'm out of luck with UT3. It's a physical copy I purchased at a retail store when it came out (years ago), so the receipt is long gone. Even though I still have the booklet with the CD-key, Steam support says I need the receipt. Now for my rant: It's one thing to just pirate the game and play it, it's another to register the generated (stolen) key with a service, as if you actually purchased it. It takes a real jerk to do that. I wish Valve would do more to verify the other key holder in the case of a conflict, that's fraud as I see it (on the pirate, not Valve). /rant EDIT: BurtonJ never responded to my PM, however I added a comment to my ticket pointing to this thread, and they added it to my account. I'm having trouble registering the first expansion (Zenith Remant) for AI War with Steam; duplicate CD Key that has already been registered by another account.
I had no problems registering the base game or the other expansions, just that one. While I can still play the game, I'd still like to register it with Steam for the benefits of being unable to ever losing my cd keys, plus achievements. I purchased directly from the Developer, and Steam Support is useless; they just don't want to know about it. Anyone know what else I can do? |

You could try what the user above you did, and point out BurtonJ's response saying that he could take care of it. You can find that here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...6&postcount=37 .
Or, as he says you could try PMing him as well. Sorry, I wish I could be more help. Though I will also say that if you ever lose your key that you bought directly from us, and you need it back, just send us an e-mail and we can get you your key. |

Thanks, I've messaged BurtonJ, but no reply yet.
I've persisted in pestering Steam Support, even directed them to this thread, but I've had no luck; they insist it is the original vendor's problem. |
