For us laymen here, does this mean custom maps will be possible? Even with Radiant?

Radiant is the map creator/editor.....No Radiant = No Custom Maps.

Any semi decent mod is not going to be available prior to Modern Warfare 3 and thus it's significance is nil when the player count drops significantly. By releasing them so late in the game's short life span just appears to be a last ditch effort to generate core game sales before the next game releases and negate the worth of the game. By the time gamers realize nothing was done with the mod tools MW3 will be released and people will move on. The concept is to entice the hold outs who haven't bought the game because they think mod tools will make it better which as we've seen previously through Modern Warfare and World At War it doesn't matter one bit.

We have begun updating wiki.treyarch.com with details on the Mod Tools BETA, which will be releasing Tuesday, May 31st on Steam.

I wanted to highlight here some of the things included in the package:
  • Launcher.
  • Asset Manager.
  • EffectsEd.
  • AssetViewer.
  • Maya 2009 Exporter Plugins.
  • Reference materials: Maya src files, scripts, example mods, xmodel exports, texture assets.

The PC team is still investigating the potential release of Radiant. I'll be sure to update you when I know more.

Good job finally giving us your beta version of mod tools 7 months after the game's release, and 5 months before the scheduled release of MW3. Pretty amazing how it's still beta. Amazing work.
I am guessing the finished version of mod tools plus Radiant will be available in like 4 months when nobody will ever give a crap because everyone will be busy playing BF3 and waiting for MW3.

As if they haven't already gotten their money from DLC. You seriously think money is their biggest worry at this point?

I'll take it you know diddly about actual modding.

Maps are actually quite on the backdoor of modding. Actually, maps aren't MODDING at all. MODS are things like custom textures and models etc. Custom game types etc. By the looks of it, we'll get it.

Let me analyze:
-funny username
-terrible english
-cussing on steam is pointless on here but only shows how immature and useless you are on steam.
-stupid exclamations at the end.
-use of the phrase "totally awesome speed modez"

We got an arrogant little kid on here!

Anyway, I wouldn't use BF3 or MW3 in an argument like this, about mod tools...we already KNOW BF3 won't have them, and MW3 most likely won't either.
I would call that ripping of your customer-base (for PC at least).
Promising that Black Ops will have modtools but waiting 7 months to release it?
Heh, that was the only reason i actually bought the game.

JD, stop pretending you care about PC and go swing on XBOX's nuts some more.

"BO will have mod tools! we love you PC guys so much to give you that"

us: "game's released, i dont see any mod tools"

"dont worry they are coming soon!, here, buy the DLC while you wait"

us: "yeah yeah, thats great. where are the mod tools? we want to make maps"

"still coming soon! OMG did you hear about the SECOND DLC? sooo much more awesome!"

us: "we dont care about your DLC, just give us the mod tools already so we can make our own maps."

"mods tools hopefully released in May!!1!"

us: "thats a start"

"BETA release May 31st! told you we'd make it! we're thinking about giving you the map editor, but look at all the other stuff!"

us: "BETA? *sigh*... and no map editor, great. thanks for listening to what we wanted. /sarcasm"

simply stunning.
