"Souzouteki: Thanks mate, Fallout was crashing as soon as I clicked "Play" in the launcher, giving me the message "Fallout 3 has stopped working."

I deleted the files in the \My Games\Fallout 3 folder (but kept the Saves folder) and went ahead to launch the game - it worked.

So I'm bumping this post for others having this problem."

I tried this it worked for me as well. Try it.

It is also entirely possible that you've damaged your hardware with any tweaking you've done.

Run your CPU and/or video card back down to stock speeds, ditch the extra unused 12Gig of ram (even in A/V editing 1080P content I never reach 4Gig of used memory. Nor when compiling C++ code, Gaming, or surfing porn), and install 7 Professional 32bit (unless you really need those 2 extra features that "Ultimate" gives you... yeah, you pay all that money for 2 features; bitlocker (useless) and additional languages).

Good luck.

16GB is fine, why would I get rid of the extra 12GB of RAM and run my 4GB in single channel for less performance?

Because this guy is computer illiterate and is obviously a troll that thinks he's in 2006.

Fixed it (at least for me)

Fallout 3 doesn't like multiple monitors. If you have this issue with several monitors, yanking one out might fix it (it did for me). This tends to happen with a lot of games. Especially older ones before dual screens became popular. It works fine with 16 gb of ram. Not to mention that gamebrio is locked into 2 gigs of ram by default even in skyrim, so whether you have 3 or 7 or even 16 gigs of ram (yes, some of those amounts would take some serious work to achieve) that's not going to affect it. And windows 7 64-bit has a 32-bit compatability layer that runs 32 bit programs in a 32 bit environment. It's been around since Vista. It's pretty much exactly like running the program in a 32-bit version of 7.

EDIT: Using windowed mode seems to work too. And that works with multiple monitors. You can change this outside the game in the splash screen.

NicolasDM is full of . He's a Luddite who thinks he understands computers. Bitlocker isn't really useful for the average consumer because it's meant for encrypting business level laptops.
