Hud problems

When I boot up Portal and load a map the crosshair doesn't appear. Can someone help me plz.

Loading which map? Do you have a link to what you've loaded if it's not in the original portal game? Be specific please, and if you can, tell us your computer's specs.

I just use the official maps and the crosshairs have appeared before

Well, obviously, something has changed. Have you done any uploading of mods, including any changes to the engine from Steam? Because that might just indicate you need to defrag the files, verify them, and restart your computer and steam. Then try again.

I have had that happen to me before when playing Protal. I think there are older threads that discuss this issue, so you'll have to keep searching. Also check Half-Life 2 threads.
