One Last Random Crit Thread

To all the random crit advocates, defenders, apologists, etc:

You were correct. I was wrong.

Valve have indeed not turned them off by default for the 10+ years since TF2 launched, and for the 6+ years I've tried to persuade Valve to do so.

This is my concession.

Congratulations. I'll make my move.

EDIT: Also on an interesting note: This is my first, only and last thread about random crits. Believe it or not.

They were correct about Valve's refusal to turn them off by default, while I stubbornly believed they would if the community and I tried hard enough.

As to whether it was the right thing to do, in terms of game quality and player retention, I think the results speak for themselves.

hmm well i'm not sure if you've been keeping up on the news (hell, i haven't really) but jill apparently publicly acknowledged there was an ongoing debate about it among the tf team, and he thinks they should be turned off. Probably not surprising for someone who's played the game as much as he has, even if he is an engineer (i think?) main

Sounds intriguing, but I've gone way past the point of harbouring any more hope of Valve making decisions which would benefit TF2 and/or its playerbase.

The people who so insistently and confidently declared that Valve would never value fair gameplay enough to turn random crits off by default can have their little victory over me - and the current state of the game with it.

Who knows, they might turn them off before SCUD is killed off. Right? Right?

But why now? Because they're shutting down this forum? They could still disable crandom rits within the next six years, after all. With Jill declaring on their community server he wants crits gone and mentioning their internal debate, there's a lot more hope than ever.

I have to admit that since matchmaking I personally haven't been bothered by crits much, mostly because I play a lot of the 12 players nocrit mode (allegedly the "competitive" mode).

If SPUF got shut down in exchange for that crits got removed in TF2, it would still suck but I wouldn't feel so sad.

"And so, SPUF sacrificed it all to ensure the enjoyment of the entire TF2 community."
