Hl2.exe Launches Then Closes Itself, Please Help?

Im running Windows 32bit and I bought DoD today but every time I try to run it it starts up the hl2.exe flashes black for a second then closes and I have no idea what could be wrong. I tried re installing it but that didn't work.

How are you trying to start the game? By desktop shortcut, Steam menu or what?
