I do not understand the Left4Dead player mentality

I got the game a couple of weeks ago, and installed it last week. I got constantly votekicked for being a newb. I improved.

Today I joined a versus server. I owned the survivors. I got votekicked.

Is the player mentality "when in doubt, votekick."?

Fair reasons people get kicked:
- They have no Mic
- They do not listen to their team mates and try to do their own thing
- They are in a spot that someones friend is coming to take
- They are being rude to the other team ("lolumad", "nice boom" after fail, "LOL", ect)
- They are using HLDJ/HLSS excessively
- They have a ping in the red
- They argue with someone who is giving them good advice.
- They give out faulty advice and stick by it even after it fails.

Unfair reasons people get kicked
- They miss a boom
- They don't know the drop locations inside out
- They take 4 seconds to free a survivor from a hunter
- They miss a death pull
- They run in and fail with the tank

From what I seen versus is mostly full of elitist, and when the sheep see votekick they all f1 it.

I owned L4D1 for a few weeks now and I don't touch versus because every time I play someone gets all emo on mic or some other is spamming friendly fire while doing death cry over and over.

It's a shame because it looks like it could be a fun mode but no fun for some 16 year old emo kid to kick you from the game you paid good money for lol.

Anyway yes the answer to your question from what I seen is yes, when in doubt, votekick is the mentality of the l4d community.

How is that not fair reason?

I find it impossible to play Versus with random people. The are either too competitive and take the game oh so seriously or they are griefers and ragequiters which makes it absolutely no fun to play.

The problem with over competitive players is that they don't seem to understand that 1 or 2 mistakes can (and DO) happen. They try to votekick you for just about anything that is not to their taste.

So, the only option to play Versus is with friends. Which is not too often because most of them (along with me) have a life and don't play L4D 24/7.

To sum up - the community behind L4D is mostly childish/immature or just too competitive to play the game for sheer fun.

I do not have too many problems with Campaign though. Occasionally a griefer would join but I can live through that in 99% of situation. Ragequitters don't bother me in Campaign mode... so I tend to stick to Campaign when playing with random people. But I wish it wasn't so and I could enjoy a nice Versus with anybody.

This guy is the kind of person that keeps vote kicking you because this game is the most serious thing in the world.

The sad thing is, is that people still think that there's a valid reason for being kicked in L4D.

I just play versus for the fun of playing against other people and playing as special infected, it gets fugly when elitists ruin it or for that matter people who don't listen and cooperate. I noticed that for L4D2 they created special infected whose abilities don't require great aiming like the Smoker, require great preparation like the Hunter or require good anticipation like the Boomer.

The new infected in L4D2 are easier to play with and I think that was Valve's intention so any player has the ability to at least once or twice be able to perform successful plays but still with expertise they are more powerful. If someone can't at least help pin down a survivor with the new infected, then something is wrong with him/her.

Well, I was more or less talking about the unnecessary votekicking. These days you get votekicked for just about anything.
I don't think making the infected easier to play with will be the solution to this. I am a decent player - I can pin a survivor, I can get him smoked, I can vomit quite nicely actually... But you do one minor mistake and people are all over you immediately.
Especially if you point out that the raging person has done the very same mistake as you did a while ago...

Well anyway, I think I will have to enjoy Versus games with my friends as much as I can because I am not willing to join any public ones anymore. Could be my loss but I want to have fun when I play and being yelled at by a immature idiot elitist is definitely not fun.

I played game with elitist who were yelling at me when I got pounced by hunter.
But when he was running on pipe on No Mercy 5 and got smoked he started to yelling that we weren't there to cover him from smoker.
It's like he is king and we are servants who will protect him from HIS OWN mistakes.
I banned him afterwards.

Yeah, unfortunately there are lots of people in this community who forgot this is a game and not a part time job.

Problem is the silly matchmaking
If u have a proper serverbrowser people will play on servers they know
If u have that situation it works 2 ways: people know eachother so they wont easily kick a known player, otherwise players care about their rep on a server so they wont act lame so easily
besides this theres always a server owner that can be called in to sort problems.
It is beyond me why valve has left versus players in the cold.
Luckily we have 8vs8 servers now that solve all this.

It took me 12 games of Versus to figure out that it's just not worth it to play. I've been kicked so many times that I went looking in the achievements tab to see if there was one for vote kicking a certain number of newbs. Why there is even an ability to vote someone out of a "game" is beyond me.
