Penumbra or Amnesia?

Well, now with the steam summer sale, I'll be definitely buying one of these.I played them both, a long time ago, Amnesia more than Penumbra...But seeing as Penumbra is 75% off, should I consider buying them all?Or just Amnesia? What is your advice, internet people?

Thanks.

If you've played them both, you should probably be able to make this call. Penumbra series has more content but is slightly less polished, Amnesia is shorter but more immersive. Neither has a lot of replay value. Just depends on what you thought of them.

I loved both, but I firmly believe Amnesia is a better game and a better deal, on sale or not. It has such amazing immersion/atmosphere and horror! Contrary to what the other poster stated, once you've completed the main story, you can download tons and tons of community-made custom stories to really extend the replay value.

I have 86 hours in the game, however I did develop a few custom stories myself, so that probably is the reason for the large amount of time I have in it. But you could still throw in many more hours playing player-made stories.

Penumbra all the way

I've played both. I played untill completion of Penumbra Overture and Black Plague. I did not compete Amnesia, it never grabed my attention like penumbra did.

If you play Penumbra I highly recommend playing overture first. It sets the whole mood of disposition and hopelessness as you travel further and further down the crevasse with no hope of escape.

The whole idea of grabbing onto things and moving them is just awesome. If they would implement this into new AAA games like skyrim the immersion would be awesome. Just imagine if every cabinet and drawer in a desk was operable.

i havent played penumbra but i am about to. i do know that amnesia has an amazing mod community. alooot of great mods/custom stories for amnesia and alot of great ones coming out. new ones almost everyday. so amnesia for $5 is a steal and it has alot of replay value considering the mods

I would say play the Penumbra series first then move to Amnesia simply for the fact that you can watch the evolution of Frictional's design work (which I find fascinating).

At the end of the day, Amnesia is a tighter, more polished experience than Penumbra. But both have some great Lovecraft-ian vibes and are just something fun and different than most of whats out there now-a-days.
