disappointing

Hello,
I bought the game about 3 hours ago and I'm already disappointed a lot.
After I bought and downloaded it I tried to start it, but it didn't work I was just getting a crash report window... great.
After trying another few times it finally worked, so I was playing a bit with the default systems and then started my own.
It looked nice and all but as soon as I double-clicked a planet to get focus on it a message poped up that I better restart it before the app crashes... nice.
Another big annoyance: it simply doesn't save any settings.
There is a multi-threading option, but it's disabled every time I restart the game, but that's not the only one that resets, there are a lot more.
Also a strange thing that happened: after restarting the universe as suggested by the game, every planet was black.

So I already read there is a new version in the works, that's nice.
When can we expect that update?
Right now the game is unplayable and that annoys me.

I'm really sorry you're disappointed. That's absolutely the last experience I would hope anyone would have with Universe Sandbox.

That every planet is black makes me think that you might be having some unusual video card issues that I haven't seen before. That said, it shouldn't do that. It wouldn't hurt to make sure your video drivers are updated and to restart your computer.

The multi-threaded option is disabled because it's experimental. Perhaps I should have gotten rid of the option all together.

The new update is underway but we don't have a release date yet; although it won't be released sooner than later this year. It's exactly because of experiences like that that we'll be updating everyone who's bought for free. And the update isn't just some minor tweaks, it's a full rewrite from the ground up in a new engine. And it will correctly support multiple processors (on by default).

Again... I'm very sorry for your frustrating experience. If you can be patient, I expect the new version will alleviate your issues.

Thanks to the german law I could get my money back, but I'm trusting you that you will improve this awesome-in-concept game with the money you've got.

About the black planets: I don't know, I have the latest drivers.
I'll test it again on my normal PC, maybe it's different there.

The new version is going to be awesome:

How are you able to test it on another computer if you already received a refund?

I didn't get a refund.
I wrote I could but I don't because I trust you.

Ahh... I totally read that wrong. Thanks for the clarification.

It's likely to work well on another computer. There seems to be a small percentage that have problems. By moving to a well tested engine (Unity 3D) I expect that many of these start up and display issues will go away for those having problems now.

And that's exactly that I'm doing... taking the revenue from sales and reinvesting it back into the project.

I can't wait to share all the improvements and exciting new features when we release later this year.

it might help if you post your hardware and OS

also another thing to try is go to steam\steamapps\common\universe sandbox\Prerequisites

and install the stuff that's in that directory even if steam already did that for you (steam can fail sometimes)

Can you try and launch the game directly from the exe that can be found here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\universe sandbox

Does that make any difference? Do you get any error messages?

The other thing to check for is to see if there are any log files. They would be found in the documents folder:
Documents\Universe Sandbox\Logs

Is there a Sandbox Log.txt file? If so I'd like to see the end of that file.
