Suggestion: Rename Friends on Steam

Summary: I have a lot of friends who often change their name on Steam, its frustrating to have to go through their profile page to see past alias's to figure out who they could potentially be. It would be amazing if I could just rename them on my friends list to the name I know them by for a better user experience in chatting and playing games.

How it would work:

1. Right click on friends name on your list
2. Click on "Rename Friend" , "Rename Alias", something close to that perhaps
3. Type in desired rename
4. Confirm - steam would then update your friend list locally under your account settings so that it is not global and is linked to your account that will transfer to other computers.

Thanks for reading!

GREAT NEWS: They have this in the new community! Just click the arrow next to their name in the friends list and then ADD NICKNAME!!!

I've found this to be really useful. It puts the nickname you add next to their name in parenthesis.
