Drastic Memory Overflow: Fell out of small block heap

Im new to using Hammer and I have been messing around trying to use it to build maps for Portal 2.

I have been building the main puzzles in the PETI editor and then exporting so that I can use Hammer to polish them up.

Recently, I have been getting this pop up in the map compile output.

Drastic Memory Overflow: Fell out of small block heap

It carries on and completes but when I load the map to test in the game, the player start point isn't in the lift and I am stuck in the corner of the first room and have to noclip to get free.

This started happening after I constructed a model of a railway line. Is the model too complex and eating all the memory?

Any help or advice is welcome, thanks.

I found this "You have too much, too small brushes tied to func_detail. Remove as much of them as you can and then try a compile again. If it still doesn't help, select them and press ctrl+shift+w to make them world geometry again."

Not having the greatest understanding of Hammer (this will be my 3rd week of using it ) I can only think that this means that the small items that form part of my rail model are too small and/or there are too many off them. I didn't know that hammer couldn't cope with that sort of thing. I will try deleting them.
