2 quick questions
1. Is Rebellion a stand-alone expansion, an expansion or a new game entirely.
2. I gave-up (rage quit admittedly) early-on with Trinity when I first encountered mines. There was no obvious way to clear them and strategies I have read required advanced tech or ship sacrifices (I couldn't believe it). I had many other games to try. Perhaps there is a no mines mod now, but is there an EASY way to clear mines? |

Mines are revealed by scout frigates. Typically I group around 10 or so scouts with my fleet when on the offensive. That way if I jump into mines, they'll be instantly engaged by my capship and flak turrets and taken out before I take too much damage. If the mines are elsewhere in the gravity well, I can peel off scouts to sit near them and let fighters/bombers pick them off. Clearing mines is easy, but takes a bit of time. They're designed this way, they're meant to slow down an advancing force long enough for the defending to either move or build a force to fight back. |

Mines are mostly a big waste of money unless they are placed properly, and I wouldn't count on AI to know how to do that. If someone wastes money on mines--just jump into the well and skirt around them on the side so as to avoid them.
In pro games, mines are sometimes used in combat--you use your mine layer to deploy the mines right on top of your opponent's fleet while in combat. |
