But i don't get one thing. Before that, we had special Europe pricing for most stuff. Now what they did ? Took the special Europe pricing, added the VAT, converted to euro, and rounded it up to the nearest x4.99, x5.99 or x9.99 value. That is not a correct way.

i feel your pain guys as im in England.

While i was in the US thou for 3 years,
i have to admit games bought in store like EB
were costing me $30/40 compared to that of
my friends paying £20 in the same store
in england. Same applied to movies.

It isnt just steam,
good luck

Yes, thats why I will be buying future games from Amazon.co.uk if Valve doesn't think this over.

Even with shipping, it only costs around half of what we'd have to pay when buying over Steam now.

Some examples:
L4D: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Left-4-Dead-...5342476&sr=8-1

£26.42 + Shipping is around 31 Euro.

TF2: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Team-Fortres...9505538&sr=8-1

Orange Box: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Half-Life-Or...9595515&sr=1-1

Oh well... I only can encourage all people from Europe not to purchase
anymore, at least not while this keeps up. After all, the customer is King (at least thats whats suposed to be).

And yea, looks like GTA was last game ive pruchased on Steam too. Good bye.

And I also love the lack of communication from Valve employees regarding this sudden change, one week before Christmas...
When they "betaed" the currency exchange, complaints showed up immediatly and yet no official response.

the thing is thou, i don't think steam can offer
independent currency's for every country. granted
the £ is one of the strongest ever, (or was lol)

but isn't it that of the publishers who are the ones
in theory that are in charge of this?

if steam was to offer say the yen as a currency
and say that became uber strong, then the people
in china would be paying example of 300% more then
the US and they would complain? how can steam
balance and do currency economics without losing moneys?

wouldnt it have to join world market? and then
if that crashes steam would be an epic fail?

Just a quick comparison against one shop here in Slovakia :
Team Fortress 2 - 499 Sk, 16.56 € vs 19.99 € @Steam (+3.43)
Left 4 Dead - 1299 Sk, 43.12 € vs €44.99 € @Steam (+1.87)
Far Cry 2 - 1399 Sk, 46.44 € vs 49.99 € @ Steam (+3.55)
CoD:WAW - 1699 Sk, 56,40 € vs 49.99 € @ Steam (-6.41) <- wow, cheaper game !
Fallout 3 - 1299 Sk, 43,12 € vs 49.99€ @ Steam (6.87)

At average, Steam is more expensive that (no, postage fees won't chage that, 1.3 € prepaid/2.6 € postpaid postage fees are lower than difference except L4D)...

bit off topic but, the irony of all this for me is i know
who my real friends are now.

i have a few American so called friends whom I asked
would they mind buying me a game on steam and I pay them on paypal
for their trouble, and give them a few £ extra for doing that for me.

they never got around to it, made excuses..
i guess it was a trust issue.

but guess whos asking me to buy them games now... lol
