Dear Esther + Sigur Ros - A match made in heaven.

How would one go about replacing the music soundtrack in the game with the MP3 files for Takk by Sigur Ros. They seem a perfect fit?
Just as an experiment

I completely agree with Sigur Ros totally fitting Dear Esther's visual style and atmosphere.

I haven't tried, but can't you just turn the music volume down in game and open the album in your preferred media player?

Thought as much.
I mean, if you wanted to replace the individual tracks with those from Takk, so they triggered at the same time/events in-game, then it'd be one big pain in the .

I don't think you can turn down the music volume separately from the narration/sound effects

You're right, you can't
Well, I guess try deleting all the music files from the Dear Esther folder and then stick media player on?

As much as I love Sigur Ros, which I certainly do, I also think the original soundtrack for Dear Esther is _outstanding_.

I love the original soundtrack myself. I have it on my ipod I love it so much.
But watching Sigur Ros' Heima DVD I was struck by the similarity of the Icelandic landscape, to our beloved first person ghost story.

Haven't tried it, but looking at the game directory I reckon its just a matter of replacing the files track01.wav, track02.wav, track03.wav and track04.wav in your Steam\steamapps\common\dear esther\dearesther\sound\music\mainmenu folder with tracks of your choice (and possibly also, some of the larger files in Steam\steamapps\common\dear esther\dearesther\sound\island) ... but you'd need the replacement files to have the same names and filetypes for this to work.
