CS:S fails to launch

Everytime I try to launch CS:S it attempts to verify game cache for a sec then appears to finish and nothing happens. I tried verifying the cache myself, it did it pretty quickly downloading some stuff, but then the same again. I have tried restarting steam to no avail.

Thanks.

Oh and I have tried the -autoconfig launch option.

Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
EVGA GTX 285
Intel i7 920 D0
3x2GB Mushkin DDR3 1600Mhz
EVGA X58 SLI LE

Just a s side step have you log out and logged back in. Try disabling the steam in game community tab and see what it does for you. Also check the game to see if the game needs to be defragged

How about deleting the ClientRegistry.blob in the steam folder? Most off the time this will fix it.

What about forcing a direct-x level then? Perhaps not helping much but trying some stuff.

What about deleting all the files in the steam folder but the "steamapps" folder and the steam.exe. And let steam rebuild itself again when you double click the steam.exe.

Only other thing i could possibly think of would be a app causing problems with steam. I know this probably isn't helping you much but it will allow others to see it and perhaps post also.

A rebuild of steam did not fix it.

Chewy i noticed you're using Win 7 64 bit just like myself. And i also had problems with CS:S. It would basically get to the "Loading" screen and stay there.

Now are you running dual screens by any chance?

If this is the case then go to the HL2.exe in your Counterstrike folder (i.e. X:\program files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\YourAccountName\counte r-strike source) and right click it, select Properties/Compatibility and then check both "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition".

If this is not the case then i'm sorry i don't have anything else. But this was the problem for me with Win 7.

Good luck all the same
