AMD/ATi Modern GPU Win7 64 bit Fix

Hi Guys. I don't have the steam version but i have a master solution for graphic corruption or errors starting the game including the MOTS expansion.

Im using a 7850 2GB GPU! This should also work for older generation cards like the 6x/5x if the same error happens.

Most users are aware of the ddraw.dll fix. This is also needed but also with this the game wont work unless you know the following:

If you use a Driver newer then Catalyst 13.2 beta 7 you will get an error with some "Video card may not have enough memory for this mode - try a lower setting. Restoring to previous settings" msg!

Now you have two options:

- Install the mentioned Catalyst 13.2 beta 7 driver

- Install the Catalyst 13.1 WHQL driver if you don't want to use a beta driver

When you installed the driver, ingame you only need to enable 3D Acceleration in the "Display" (im using 1280*1024 16bit) tab and adjust the Viewsize 1 step before max to prevent/get rid of a flickering issue. Don't use the official Dark Forces II 1.01 update.

This driver also fixes 2 other Games i know:

- Incoming and addon subversion (before u had the error "Createsurface for Z-Buffer failed)
- Forsaken (same error as incoming)

Any driver upwards the 13.2 beta 7 driver results in the mentioned errors.

Keep in mind that OpenGL Profiles won't work with the built-in application profile manager inside catalyst control center. It only works with 13.9 WHQL and some betas. To resolve this i suggest using Radeonpro. This tool makes profiling with OpenGL working without problems (some games need the "api watch" function disabled", just disable it for all.

I only use Win7 x64, maybe this works also for 32 bit/vista etc...

This should be stickied. Thanks for posting these links and info for everybody.

EDIT: Damn, looks like AMD isn't allowing links to their old driver versions anymore. That is pretty shiddy of them.

I was able to roll-back my driver to a working version, but this won't be possible for everybody.

TechPowerUp hosts virtually all versions of NVIDIA/AMD drivers:
64-bit: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...ista-7-64-bit/
32-bit: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...ista-7-32-bit/

64-bit XP: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...-winxp-64-bit/
32-bit XP: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...-winxp-32-bit/

I hope this works.

Edit: It did but there was one caveat. I had to use Display Driver Uninstaller after uninstalling Catalyst Omega driver to completely remove the AMD driver. Without running Display Driver Uninstaller, my computer would BSOD installing 13.1 (0x0000007e) and again trying to boot into Windows (0x0000003b). The second boot prompted to repair which fortunately worked. All of the steps I did to make it work are available here:

I have an Radeon HD 5870.
