If it is a preset music, use (as punishment said) an ambient_generic
To clarify, ambient_generic is a point entity you can place anywhere in the map. Then in the options name the ambient generic (to something like "music1"), search for "music" in the sound browser and pick the track you want and then set the flags to 'play everywhere' Then trigger the ambient_generic with a logic entity or a trigger_once to 'OnTrigger/music1/Playsound' (or 'OnStartTouch if using triggers) It can be difficult to locate an exact song, as they are simply named "track15", "track16" etc, so you may want to make a test map with multiple ambient_generic's in so you can test which track is which and pick out from the list |

Right, it just requires a few more steps
Firstly you need to grab the mp3 and put it in Steam/steamapps/username/'game'/sounds/music (So for instance "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\shadowmancer471\half-life 2 episode two\ep2\sound") Then it should show up in the sound list. You can also use .wav files (which I personally prefer using) In order to ship the map with the music, the best way is to learn and use PackBSP, a third party program which can embed custom content like your music straight into the map file |

I don't know if Source will still read those sounds if they're in a directory below 'sounds', I've just been keeping them in 'sounds'

What's wrong with it?
Does it not show up or not play or what? I've had random issues where I've had to first convert the mp3 to .wav with audacity to get it to play ingame for instance |

If MP3, 128kpbs constant bit rate. If .WAV, 44100 hz ADPCM.

Save your song in: cstrike/sound MP3 and WAV will both work, although you should stick to WAV. One disadvantage of MP3 is that the preview in the Hammer editor doesn't work. WAV tends to have a better quality sound, too. |

But if you plan on releasing the map, use MP3 as WAV has a massive filesize.
