Next ''line'' of weapons/items to come as Crate exclusives?
As Valve are running out of new Strange weapons to introduce in Crates and Strange parts will only last them a while, it seems likely that they will have to come up with a new weapon quality sooner or later - a new line of items that are more ''prestigious'' and desirable than regular weapons. TF2's economy will eventually need something like this to keep the appeal of Crates and the flow of the Key market.
But what could they come up with that doesn't involve giving these crate- or Store-exclusives superior stats? Something as ''appealing'' and unique as the kill-recording function of Stranges, but different. Personally I have a feeling the ''secret project'' might be related to a new line of weapons, either unusuals with particle effects (bleh) or paintable weapons (yuck). Even though certain weapons might look cool painted tastefully, I shiver at the thought of pink Miniguns or lime-green Scatters... That would really put the final nail in the coffin of TF2's visual appeal. tl,dr: Not a fan of Crates or Stranges or any sort of e-peen weapons in TF2 but sooner or later Valve will introduce a new line of items in Crates - what do you think they'll be? Hope to god we don't eventually get ones with superior stats. |

There are still plenty of weapons that don't have strange quality yet, and as we've seen with the S.Pistol and S.Knife, they can always bring back old strange weapons. I think it will be a very long time before they bring out a new weapon quality past Unique, Vintage, Genuine and Strange.
Plus, there are always hats... |

Unless the new item type also had counters, I don't think as many people would be interested in them.

Adding a ton of potential appearances to countless different weapons - potential appearances that are the exact same shade of color for completely different items - would ruin this. We're already treading this line with reskins - let's not make it even worse by adding 29 new styles to keep track of for every single paintable item. |

Prepare for Strange-usual hats that not only keep track of your kills, but also have particle effects that increase in volume and flare as you hit kill milestones.
