TF2 Needs A TutoRial.
I think TF2 should have a tutorial. I know you veterans don't think so, but it is need for new players. TF2 is very confusing when you play it first time and not to forget all the patches/updates the game received recently.
-How often will you find even vets that do not know that compression blast can extinguish fire -Some players do not know that you can change the direction of a sentry -Some don't know what rocket/sticky jump is about There are just so many mechanics in the game as for now. Tips are not something people will usually pay attention. New players may not even get a clue. They may not even a get the idea of looking at a tutorial online. A game without a tutorial makes it look like a mod. Last edited by madafaka : 11-08-2009 at 10:56 PM. |

I didn't pop in after the Heavy Update and wonder "why the Hell are these 3 classes different from what I was told originally?" for 12 hours straight.
I asked. People told me. I learned. I didn't see a ton of people popping in after the Scout Update and see them wonder "why the Hell are all these classes so different from what I was told origninally?" for 12 hours straight. They asked. I told them. They learned. When I'm on fire near a pyro I tell them to airblast me. I am extinguished. They learn. Et cetera. And anyone too stupid to ask deserves to be typefragged while they're writing "lol idk wut to do guise". >> |

I've had a similar thread before. What did I learn? If ain't going to help the poster, 80% of the time they aren't going to be interested. Single player features don't interest a lot of people, even if it can bring more people into the community.
Not everyone likes playing online right away. Some people don't like the concept of being dead weight to their team while they learn. However this belief of thinking that it won't actually benefit them is short sighted because there are already features which supposedly help newer players. However most of these features irritate people, FaN and Sandman are the most obvious examples. There are better ways to help newer/weaker players rather than give them weapons to compensate for a skill shortage. Overall sure the weapons are weaker in trained hands, but in the hands of a weak player they are far more effective. So in short, obviously I would like an optional tutorial so it would remove the excuse for some of the nub friendly features and weapons. |

The game's intimidating, an optional tutorial would be really appreciated. |

Could be helpful but learning how to play isn't exactly difficult - you just need to put some time into playing the game.
Servers for people new to TF2 are more likely to be helpful as new players could learn about the game with each other and get more enjoyment out of it - only problem being that there would be people who join the servers just for easy targets. |

Yup, its amazing how many players out there do not know basic things about the game.
To be fair to Pyros though, it's something that doesn't exactly make sense. Their class is an offensive one, it is designed to do damage. It seems counter intiutive for them to have a way to put OUT fire. Sure a puff of air, its logical enough, but it doesn't come to mind as much as say with a Sniper using Jarate. This is why I rarely expect for someone to put out my fire and always look for an alternative method. Pyro is my least played class and I myself nearly forgot I could do it until I realised he was on fire and had come to the area to come to health that I had just taken (I ran into him about 3 seconds later so I didn't take it from him) had I not figured what he was looking for I'd have probably forgotten. Though someone I thought had a very good idea for the backburner. Does less damage from infront, but more damage from the sides and crits from the rear and it doesn't lose the compression blast. Then there'd be really no excuse for Pyros not to know. Last edited by Peachrocks : 11-07-2009 at 09:15 PM. |
