Unhappy Can't connect to server using public IP

I followed this guide (https://www.linode.com/docs/applicat...n-ubuntu-14-04) to setup a CS:GO dedicated server on my Linode running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS.

I can start the server just fine, and I see this on the console

Code:
Logging into Steam gameserver account with logon token '57637D12xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'
Connection to Steam servers successful.
   Public IP is My.Servers.IP
I also used Steam's web API to verify, and my server appears successfully. http://api.steampowered.com/ISteamAp...15&format=json

But I still can't connect directly using the console, and I can't add my server to favorites. If this were a firewall issue, how can Steam's web API show my server?

My sifting of the old forums led me to this post, which is oddly not showing up in the section. I hope the timestamp I see is correct... Anyways, some tips to debugging connection issues:

- Check the service status of ufw (Command: service ufw status). This is Ubuntu's iptables front end. If this server is on the Internet (DMZ or otherwise), look up how to enable the ports through ufw instead of iptables. If you are using port forwarding and your server is internal, then just turn off the ufw service. At least until you figure out the connection issue.
- The tcpdump command is your friend. You can use that command to see if traffic is coming in and if traffic is going out. You may want to add a few filters to avoid getting all interface traffic. Some example commands:
tcpdump -ntti any host YOUR_IP
tcpdump -ntti any port 27015
tcpdump -ntti any port 27015 and host YOUR_IP
- The heartbeat command in Source Engine sometimes helps in my past experience

I'm surprised people still use the forums. Valve has done a great deal to try and mask its existence.

Edit: Also really neat are these bash wrapper scripts for Source DS:
