That comment is a bit stringent, but it does help if you can draw a straight line. You don't have to draw the runes large, either. I don't seem to have much trouble casting, even in combat, though one of the first games I played was Crystal Raider. That game really helped you get good mousing skills.

I've noticed that going full-blown 1680*1050 will screw up runes even when drawn perfectly.

I downsized to 1280*1024 and draw them the same way I did in 16:10 and they work every time.
Arx Fatalis Fixed will also restrict that as the highest resolution.

I wish other games like this used that style,it really makes you feel your casting a actual spell.
