So a windows user with a hackintosh is a nerd but an apple user with bootcamp is hip?
I'll show you a windows PC that can run vegas pro. You do not need FCP, it's not the end all be all. I'm not saying vegas is better than FCP but it's far from mediocre. Anybody that says it is, probably never really used it, this is my experience. I'm not here to argue and this is gone far off topic, however the responses I see here are packed with fallacies (were all guilty of strawman). Enough of this. |

I don't see why Final Cut Pro is superior to any other high end video software, like Sony Vegas. Windows and Macs are equally good for work related stuff, only the latter having different aesthetics, which, I suppose is worth the price premium if money is no object.
This part is why I don't believe Macs are a good idea for gaming. Currently, restrictions in even the Mac Pro prevent it from ever wielding the maximum graphics horsepower that is available for Windows users. For example, you're not gonna be putting in a Radeon 7970 or a GTX 680 in a Mac, and you can forget about SLI or Crossfire support. In addition, the Radeon 5770 that comes in a $3,000 base config is simply pathetic and inexcusable. For 3 grand, I expect nothing less than a Radon HD 6970 if not a 7970. The lack of a modern high end graphics card in a supposedly high end computer is the primary reason Macs are seldom used for gaming. Yes, it can do some gaming on the side, but hardly the experience fit from a multi-thousand dollar machine. |

I'm perfectly happy with my radeon hd 6750m in my mbp... it may not be the best card out there, but I can play most current gen games above 60 fps on highest settings and thats fine with me games are more stable in mac os x than windows anyhow... my games NEVER crash on me Mac gaming may not be the best choice when stacked up against pcs when regarding just gaming... but gaming isn't everything, and frankly there are some jobs pcs don't do as well as macs... Being marketed as a workstation, I was pretty surprised Apple offered neither as an option. |

Macs and PCs are good in their own right, it boils down to what the user likes.
OP, you should get a Mac Pro. That's definitely the best Mac for gaming. |

A maxed-out iMac beats the Mac Pro at gaming, Canarinta.

It's sad but true, Apple hasn't given any love to the Mac Pro. That Sandy Bridge quad core in the iMac beats out the Westmere processor used in Mac Pros, and the Mobility Radeon 6970 beats out the Radeon HD 5770 used in the Mac Pro, and even comes pretty close to the Radeon 5870.
