Fix for Win7 splash screen updater loop

I had the same loop reported by multiple users, load the game, updater runs, splash screen displays, click play, repeat...game ran fine before Windows 7 upgrade from Vista.

Solved it by setting compatibility mode and run as administrator on both the updater executable and the game executable.

For the laymen:

Locate:

%Steam Folder%\steamapps\common\shaun white snowboarding\

Default path would be 'C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\shaun white snowboarding\' I believe.

1.Right click 'ShaunWhiteSnowboarding.exe' select properties, select the 'Compatibility' tab.
2.Check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and select 'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the dropdown.
3.Check 'Run this program as an administrator' in the Prestige Level section (this will only be available if you have local administrator rights on your user account).
4.Click Ok.
5.Right click 'ShuanWhiteSnowboardingUpdater.exe' select properties and follow steps 2-4 again.
6.Load the game.

My screen stayed black for about 2 minutes before it finally loaded.

Hmm I am running Win7 64bit, your issue must be separate . Try removing all USB devices and test. Found that is a problem with alot of console ports recently. Sometimes they wont load, sometimes massive lag, remove USB controllers and hey presto runs fine...worth a shot.

Still no-go. I only have my mouse connected to USB, my keyboard to PS/2.

As a side note:

PC Specs:

i7 980x (stock)
GTX 480 (stock)
24GB RAM

All drivers up to date, all other games work (minus 10, out of 900+ Steam games)

Unhappy I just get an app crash

Doesn't work for me either, Win7 Pro 32bit.

After changing the properties as advised it does try to load with a black screen but only results in the Updater.exe crashing.

Fixed it for me (64-bit Win7). If you haven't already, people still having problems should check out the other fixes as well, there are at least three show-stopping problems with this game (that I know of), this splash loop, the i7 hyperthreading issue and the EKShadersPC-thing. I found fixes to all three from this forum, and finally got this game running.

Anyway, thanks for this, I'd already tried setting the updater exe to run as administrator, for some reason didn't think to do the same with the main executable.
