Disable automatic sound downloading from servers!

I am having the exact problem as stated above, but it's not too much of a bother because I just type in the command through the console anyway. If anybody might know what the issue is, please say.



EDIT: I found the problem. What text editor were you using? I first used Wordpad, then I opened it up in Notepad and found how much unnecessary code was in it just to make sure the font was Ariel and such.

Do not open the .cfg file with Wordpad or anything similar, because it's kind of too complicated for the program to handle and you'll need a much simpler one as Notepad.

Instead of making an autoexec.cfg file, I went to ...SteamApps/USERNAME/counter-strike source/cstrike/cfg/config

In the "config" file, I edited this line: cl_downloadfilter "all" --> cl_downloadfilter "none"

That works, right?
So, by changing it to "none", does it mean that no custom data/files/sounds will be downloaded into my computer from any server?

Oh, and also, in the same "config" file, There is this line:
cl_allowdownload "1"

Does this line have anything to do with allowing your client/computer to download custom data/files/sounds from any server?

This will definently help with my new internet speed (had to lower it to 2 mb/s, i had it at 9 mb/s, it was insane fast before last month)

Here is my understanding of cl_downloadfilter:

To allow the download of anything, use the parameter "all"

To deny the automatic download of anything, use the parameter "none"

To deny only the automatic download of sound files, put "nosounds". You will still download maps and graphics.

This might have been answered before. I haven't read all the posts, I linked here from the Concerned HL2 comic and skipped to the end.

HEy, i was wondering if you can put 2 of that command.. i tryed and cant do it..

ill explain.. i get into a server i need to dl sound.. so i put
cl_downloadfilter nosounds.. woot no more sound to dl..

but then i have to dl models.. etc.. so i put
cl_downloadfilter nomodels.. but then it makes me dl sounds again..

so is there a way to block sounds and models

If you put it into the config.cfg it can be overwritten by a server (unless you have it on read-only). The whole idea of "outsourcing" commands to different cfgs is that they can't be overwritten by the server (in fact, I have separate cfg files for network settings, graphic settings and keybinds)

If server admins would be consistent in there file structure I wouldn't be needing this. for example the quake sounds in the QUAKE folder not in MYCLAN/QUAKE OR QUAKE1.
