CS:S crash

I downloaded CS:S yesterday on a Vista 64 bit computer.
I opened it up and made a bot server, when I was playing, I noticed it was choppy, which doesn't seem right when my computer is a high end system. I changed the ratio to the highest, and the resolution to the highest, and the screen came up with lots of lines going across the screen, I could move my mouse but not see where anything was. I uninstalled and reinstalled CS:S and the problem occurred again. There is no error message when I load it. any help?

Do you have a multi-core processor?

I recently installed Windows 7 64 bit and I had a similar problem as well. If you have a multi-core processor, open the game but dont join or create a server. Ctrl+Alt+Delete, go to task manager, under the processes tab, select the hl2 process, right click on it, got to Set Affinity, and check only 1 cpu core. I was unable to play l4d or CSS. Running L4D and some other games on 1 cpu core has eliminated this problem for me. I wish I knew the launch parameter to make it run on only one core. There is a -threads parameter but it does not for this purpose.

This works! but for Gun games you have to quit css and do it all over again when you change maps

Can you give a bit more details on your graphics card? And how many bots was you trying to use?

You can use this to force a direct-x and test it with.

Of course, but can you tell me what parameter to use? "-threads 1" does not work.

You can do it very easy in task manager. Open it up, processes tab, find the games.exe right click, select affinity, select just one core.

I know that, I SAID THAT in my post just a couple posts above. The point is, it's going to be a royal pain in the behind to have to set the affinity manually every time I open a game. I need a launch parameter.

When you set it i do believe it applies to all the games. The only other one i know is "-threads 1" command but i don't think it pllies to that though. But give ti a try and see what happens.
