Ok, I want to know if I actually absolutely HAVE to have half-life 2 in order to play the levels on portal, or am I good with just sticking with Portal only, cuz I don't want to spend another 20 buck <Unnecessary text speak> lol </Unnecessary text speak>

If it says you must have it then obviously, yes, you must have it. It probably uses resources found in the HL portions of the source program.

Worth buying at any price. Get the orange box.

My initial thinking was it only needed Portal, but I beleive Zekiran is correct, it likely uses more than just what is found in Portal.

I'm almost positive I know where they used certain textures, too.

Things I don't recall having seen anywhere in Portal itself.

Since they say that the mappack *Requires Steam with Half-Life 2 and Portal installed in order to play, they mean that you must have HL2 and Portal installed in order to install and play it.

I think it ran for me with only the demo of HL2 installed

or maybe it was the source sdk

i don't remember which one
