Country name wrong

When you are setting up your profile the Bahamas is named Bahama

That's sort of like someone putting American or Chinese in for those countries.

Shouldn't it technically be "Commonwealth of the Bahamas"?

Yes it could technically be that but for short hand purposes like all the other countries that are commonwealth, republic etc. in the list its just Bahamas or The Bahamas. Bahama is more of an adjective when referring to something as being Bahamian.

Perhaps it's not a big thing, but speeling mistakes should still be fixed.

Well I did what I could apparently:

"Yes the Steam Community is part of Steam. The actual list of what countries you may choose is populated through a third party. We do not have control over what they list for countries.
I hope this clears up the matter" from support

So this third party could put pretty much anything in those list and steam support doesn't seem to care -_- Hope they aren't paying for incorrect info

Nope, the information is free. Kind of; it comes as a gift for another data product we use. Remarkably, usable a hierarchical list of countries, governing subdivisions, and cities is pretty hard to come by. As a matter of policy, we don't make edits to the data since they'd be obliterated by an update.

Ok I guess whatever then I'll have to deal with it. But can't you at least send a notice telling them they have it spelt wrong or will they remove the feature or something if steam asks. I don't expect this to be fixed today or in a month but eventually.

Bump was going to let this die until I found out its been like that for years so there's probably no intention of fixing this ever. I'm sorry but i am going to nag until its fixed.

If it is truly incorrect, it does seem as though Steam could contact the supplier of the list and request that they correct it in their next database update. Simply shrugging it off because Valve doesn't make the list is lazy customer service.

I say this because I work in customer service. If one of the suppliers made a faulty product that resulted in a problem with my product, I would be responsible for contacting them and getting it fixed.

While a single 's' may not seem like much, people have been to war over less. I'm might be a little offended if the list say "United States of Americ"

Last I heard the country names adhered to ISO 3166-1, an internationally standardised list of countries. So contact ISO if you have a problem with it.

Did you even compare what steam has there compared to what the iso listed. Yes there are standards but they don't mean its up to the companies using them to make sure they implement them correctly from the iso standard.
edit sorry if i sound harsh but at least understand the situation before u post
