Is Arkane studios helping with Ep3?

I heard a rumor that Arkane is helping Valve with "something". Thats why "the Crossing" has been put on hold. What that something is, is anyones guess. But I am wondering if it might be Ep3?

Arkane, creators of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, is in my opinion the most cutting edge studio in FPS gaming today. There, I said it. It needed to be said. I also think that Dark Messiah is the most cutting edge FPS game out there. From it's well done full-body awareness, to it's FULL physics gameplay, amazing RPG elements, the rope-bow, the enemy picking you up and throwing you, to you landing on your butt and looking at your feet, to the best melee system ever seen in an FPS - Dark Messiah offers things never before seen in an FPS...and they did it using Valves own engine!

If I were Gabe, I would immediatly recognize that, and contract Arkane to help out with Ep3...and I hope that is exactly what has happend. Does anyone know? Love it if Gordon can block blows with his crowbar

Raphael Colantonio, CEO and creative director of Arkane Studios, told us. "Since then, we shifted our efforts to other very good projects." Two of those projects are reportedly underway at Arkane's Austin studio, an FPS RPG and a "casual strategy game" for the iPhone
An FPS RPG? Dark Messiah 2? Oh I hope so. I dont see Ep3 as having RPG elements...but who knows?

Casual strategy game? Could that have anything to do with Valve recruiting the guy who made DotA?

You're referring to IceFrog there mate. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was the case too.

There was a guy who claimed VALVe was making a 3rd person RPG (could be coop but this is hazy in my mind) that had something to do with aliens. He didn't say the title, he said he couldn't remember but I think VALVe just told him to be quiet. This happened in a chat.

I don't know how true this was, but he definitely visited VALVe since there were pictures of him. In fact I am inclined to believe this, even though it sounds way off as VALVe was always a first person shooter developer.

I don't get why Valve has hired Icefrog. Were there any discussions on these forums that I've missed? I'm really interested on hearing what people think of this whole hiring-RTS-designer thing.

I love dark messiah and have beaten it probably 8 times, It really is very underrated. With that said, I think that labeling Arkane as the most "cutting edge" studio is definitely pushing it. Dark Messiah had some pretty cheesy voice acting (Sweet dragons blood, what what THAT??), and it was pretty unstable upon release. Whenever you hear people talk of the most "cutting edge" developers, there's a good chance it includes Valve, Crytek, ID, etc. and not Arkane Studios. Most people would say "Arkane who?" They really haven't done enough to spark a huge following in the gaming community.

What makes you think that Dark Messiahs "full body awareness" it out of Valves league? Do you really think that no one at Valve could top that, or haven't already sat down and decided to NOT create a similar system for their games? Dark Messiah has this because the gameplay mechanics call for it; it's a melee game where you cinematically swing swords, kick things, and climb ropes. It only makes sense to develop a "full body awareness" system to make it look like your character is actually doing these things.

I thought Mirror's Edge had better full body awareness. I also thought it was more cutting edge. Not to say I didn't like Dark Messiah... but it had a lot of downfalls and probably isn't on my top 10 list.

Because when I am driving the airboat, the steering wheel moves by itself.

Its not just body mechanics...its the excellent melee, its the nice RPG elements, its different combos you can use magic with warrior or stealth. Its rope bows for vertical dimensions on maps. Its being able to fall down and get back up, its the clever use of several props...its...A LOT OF THINGS. A lot that VALVe didnt do with their own engine. Even Gabe said "Arkane showed whats possible with the Source engine." Gabe was talking "cutting edge"...or whats possible.

Dark Messiah is ahead of any FPS game I have seen with these things. Thats why I say cutting edge. And yes, Valve should sign them up and fast to help develop Ep3. If Im a studio, I know Im calling them and getting together for a meeting. I can spot talent when I see it.

Yes Ubisoft pushed them...but the bugs were fixed, so no harm no fal. Some of the voice acting was good, and some was bad. But when I say cutting edge, Im not talking about voice acting...which Bioshock is probebly the best at.

Why? What has Valve done that is so cutting edge? Nothing. They are great at putting a lot of good things together to make a wonderful FPS game...but thats not "cutting edge". Crytek? I wasnt aware of the excelent melee involved with Crysis. id software? The last good game they had was RTCW. Come on Hayden, those arent cutting edge. Compare those games to what is offered in Dark Messiah...be honest.
